75 musicians from across the UK to attend LMN's 2018 Musicians' Practice Forum
Sunday 7th January 2018 1:26PM
Live Music Now (LMN) is holding a ground-breaking training event for LMN Musicians from all over the UK. Held at Kings Place on Friday 16th February 2018, LMN Musicians’ Practice Forum 2018 will bring together 75 talented musicians at the start of their careers for a day of training, networking, discussion and performance. This event is being funded and supported by Arts Council England and the Utley Foundation.
Embarking on a professional career in music is a difficult choice, and there are very few opportunities for early-career musicians to access support during this vulnerable period. LMN works with 350 young professionals each year, through our training and development scheme, to help them develop an approach to building a 'portfolio' career, balancing traditional artistic work alongside musical roles within the community. The LMN Musicians’ Practice Forum is the newest addition to Live Music Now’s ambitious training scheme, with a hugely successful pilot last year.
Live Music Now has invited many top industry professionals over a wide range of fields to the event in London to give presentations including a keynote presentation by community music legend Kathryn Deane, lead panel discussions and provide detailed 1-1 coaching sessions to our musicians. In addition to this diverse programme, facilitated networking sessions led by established professionals and LMN Alumni, will encourage collaborations between musicians from different genres.

Quotes from musicians' attending the 2017 Musicians' Practice Forum:
''Tim's speech about Dementia and Dementia Friends has reminded me to 'make small changes' and be more sensitive to how people who live with dementia might feel when a stranger approaches. I shall remember that every time I perform in a care home now and try to be more understanding and more patient with people with dementia.''
''With Ros' tips on how to use percussion instruments in workshops, I now feel more confident and have more knowledge in how to use percussion instruments with a group effectively and to interact with my audience with a percussion instrument in a non-verbal way.''
''Wonderful day with LMN reminding us all that there is a fantastic aim to LMN and this really is a complete honour to be a part of! So informative and great atmosphere.''
