Calling talented young musicians in Northern Ireland

Tuesday 18th April 2017 5:15AM

Live Music Now, the leading musicians’ development charity, is looking for talented young musicians to audition for a place on its prestigious scheme, which counts leading musicians David Lyttle, Gerard McChrystal and Lorna Henry among its alumni. Musicians of all genres, including jazz, traditional, classical and contemporary are welcome to apply. The only criteria are that you must be at the outset of your professional career and keen to develop skills to work with a range of participants, including older people, children with special educational needs and other marginalized groups. Auditions will be held on 21 June in Belfast, with an application deadline of 10 May.

Alice Lewis, Branch Director, says

‘This is an exciting opportunity for outstanding young musicians in Northern Ireland. Successful candidates will benefit from a wealth of training and development opportunities, including specialist sessions, mentoring and networking events with peers across the UK; not to mention fees paid at Musicians Union rates. As an LMN musician you can expect rewarding and fulfilling experiences, working with a range of participants, which will help develop an unrivalled skill-set for a portfolio career.’

Soprano Laura McFall, currently on the scheme, says

‘I’ve been on the Live Music Now scheme for almost four years and it has absolutely changed my life. I get such a buzz every time I do an LMN gig, whether it’s in a care home, day centre or with young kids. The experience of working with people living with dementia and special educational needs has been not only been incredible, but inspirational. On top of regular employment through LMN, I’ve been fortunate enough to make a lot of contacts through networking events organised by LMN as well as attend training days and masterclasses by some of the industry’s best teachers and opera coaches. Having a regular platform to perform has helped me develop musically, because it’s a fresh challenge each time – whether that’s bringing to life folk songs from the archives or creating stories through song for early years children. I cannot encourage you enough to apply for this rewarding, supportive and life changing scheme. Go for it!’
