“Maryann Mc Donnell, alias Neptune M., is a singer, guitar player and original music artist from Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. With a repertoire comprising of self-penned lyrically-led numbers, a mix of 20th century folk songs and cinematic classics such as ‘Once Upon A Dream’ as well as a discerning selection of contemporary music, Maryann’s principal intention is to captivate and stir her audience. Her voice- typically accompanied by soft electric guitar – is at once melodiously sweet, intimate and angelic and then powerful and impassioned, striving to deliver the full spectrum of emotions encased in each song’s narrative.
In the Summer of 2016 Maryann moved to Derry City to study a short course in Performance and Music Technology at the Nerve Centre. That Summer she won first prize in the over 18s category of the Music City Busking festival. In Derry Maryann found a vibrant arts community and began performing regularly in venues such as Bennigan’s Jazz Club and providing support for her peers- Scenery, Velvet Alibi and Maya Goldblum. Maryann will be featuring as Neptune M. on the upcoming album of Derry based band Strength, singing a duet with the band’s front man, Rory Moore.
Maryann is also working on her own original music and is currently writing and recording an EP, which will be released in 2018. Her most marked influences- evident in her choice of covers- are Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, Jeff Buckley, Lianne La Havas, Joan Baez, Chet Baker and Lauryn Hill.
Endeavouring to make a business of her vocation she will be branching out in 2018 to perform sacred music for wedding ceremonies and special occasions and is also broadening her repertoire to include Jazz and Country music, enabling her to meet the needs of a wider range of venues and broader audiences.”
