We’re Mimi Doulton (singer) and Dylan Perez (piano) – we have been performing together since 2017. Our concerts encompass – mostly – classical music for voice and piano, from the songs of Schubert to world premieres. We were originally brought together by the songs of American composer Aaron Copland (and our love of cats!) whilst students at the Guildhall – his music still features in our repertoire, but we’ve expanded in both directions: about 200 years back and 75 forwards (we’re aiming for 100 of course)!
We like to take audiences on an adventure, with a focus on texts that explore a similar theme from different perspectives. For us, every performance starts with poetry, and then we look at how the music enhances our connection to the words and to each other.
Important musical influences for us include the soprano Jessye Norman (Mimi once saw her do a concert in her slippers – icon), jazz clarinettist Benny Goodman, and pianist Mitsuko Uchida.
