Bio

Mimi Doulton (singer) and Dylan Perez (piano) have been performing together since 2017. Their concerts encompass – mostly – classical music for voice and piano, from the songs of Schubert to world premieres. The duo were originally brought together whilst students at the Guildhall, by their joint interest in the songs of American composer Aaron Copland (and their love of cats!). Copland’s music still features in their repertoire as well as expansion in both directions: about 200 years back and 75 forwards (they’re aiming for 100 of course)!

Mimi and Dylan like to take audiences on an adventure, with a focus on texts that explore a similar theme from different perspectives. Every performance starts with poetry, and then exploration of how the music enhances our connection to the words and to each other.

Important musical influences include the soprano Jessye Norman (Mimi once saw her do a concert in her slippers – icon), jazz clarinettist Benny Goodman, and pianist Mitsuko Uchida.
