Bio

The Olive Collective is a young, passionate and experimental ensemble comprising Alex Carey (cello), Ella Pearson (oboe/cor anglais) and Megan Rushbrook (piano). Having met while studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, it is their love of a vast array of musical genres that brought the trio together in 2020 in order to play a piece heavily inspired by Middle-Eastern folk music.

Collaborating with composers on new works as well as writing their own arrangements and original pieces, the music that The Olive Collective plays is influenced by a variety of styles including classical, jazz, and world music. The unusual combination of these three instruments creates possibilities for exciting and exotic sound worlds, and the group is characterised by a love of exploration as they play with these sounds and colours, frequently incorporating extended techniques and improvisation into their performances.
