Notes for New Year – Songwriting for Staff
In 2024 Live Music Now Cymru and Marleyfield House co-designed and delivered a project for staff and residents called Notes for New Year. Two Live Music Now musicians collaborated with nine staff to write Marleyfield’s song called ‘Croeso i Marleyfield’.
Staff who were working across different sites were brought together for the first time to tell the story of the care home. The project gave staff new ways to connect and communicate, and gave the newfound pride in their work.
“We are all so thrilled … Passing each other with HUGE grins, going to sleep and waking to Welcome to Marleyfield“.
– Michelle, Care Staff
Hope Through Music
The Notes for New Year project provided a reflective framework for staff to explore music and songwriting to provide joy and lift moods, to help build resilience and hope.
Creative songwriting helped staff express themselves and find new ways to work together.
Marleyfield House staff reported:
- Increased confidence in their work
- Greater job satisfaction
Feeling more connected as a workforce - New music skills and music strategies
for the workplace - New ways to interact with each other and care home residents
- Feeling comfortable in their own voice
- Feeling stronger as a team.
“This has been such a wonderful project to take part in. As Activities Coordinator I have been very lucky and taken part in many projects with residents so it was lovely to be included in this Live Music Now project as it was for staff and gave me chance to take part in a project myself for a change.
I asked staff from different departments and, as Marleyfield House has two separate buildings, brought staff that don’t normally work alongside each other together and a chance to get to know each other, share thoughts and ideas whilst having fun.”
– Lyn Hulme, Activities Co-Ordinator
