Our participatory concerts for specialist schools offer children and young people a memorable and enjoyable musical experience in a safe and familiar environment.

Rather than a traditional ‘sit and listen’ concert, musicians invite pupils to join in the performance on their own terms, with activities including:
- Singing and vocalising
- Movement
- Playing an instrument
- Sensory engagement (such as feeling vibrations)
- Exercising choice and control (such as conducting the musicians)
- Conversation and asking questions
- Observing, listening and reacting
Live Music Now’s trained musicians tailor their performances to the needs of each group to promote engagement and interaction. Schools can choose between one longer concert or shorter back to back sessions, whichever suits pupils’ needs better.
Over 93% of teachers rated pupils’ levels of engagement in participatory concerts as either ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’.

Feedback
“The session exceeded all expectations around the response from the pupils, which I think was down to the musicians themselves and the manner they used to interact. It is hard to put into words just how much our pupils got out of the session.”

“This was the best day ever!”
Pupil
“Our children would not get to experience musicians playing outside of school due to their individual needs and so it is a chance for them to have some fun with music”
Teacher
“You managed to inspire even those who don’t usually listen or engage—I saw them getting up, eager to take part, which was wonderful to see. It truly made a difference… Thank you once again for such a memorable day!”
