We all know how much music can offer young people. Access to music education is every child’s right. For autistic young people, research has found music can impact:
💬 communication and language development,
🤝 social interaction,
🧘♂️ anxiety and emotional regulation,
🌟 confidence and self-esteem,
🎯motor coordination & sensory integration.
But we also understand that there are many challenges to providing music education, and as a result, access and delivery can vary widely.
If you work in an Autism Resource Base (ARB), you can help us to understand how we can improve access for all autistic young people.
We’re looking for ARB staff to complete our short online survey by 5pm on Tuesday 30th September 2025.
The survey is available here: https://tinyurl.com/ARBMusicResearch
The survey is part of a one-year research project delivered by Live Music Now in partnership with the University of South Wales, and funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
The aim of this survey is to:
- Understand what music provision currently looks like in ARBs,
- Identify barriers, challenges and gaps that you’re facing,
- Highlight where opportunities and good practice already exist,
- Understand how we and others can work to increase opportunities.
The insights shared will directly shape how we develop, signpost and influence policy for music opportunities for autistic young people across the UK.
Every response really does make a difference. Please share with your networks!
