Transforming Communities

Album Release: Luminate – Celebrating 30 Years of Live Music Now Scotland

This year, Live Music Now Scotland celebrates its 30th birthday. A blazing trail of commissions has followed in the charity's wake. In recognition of these three decades of achievements, Delphian has taken a snapshot of LMN's activity, itself a miniature picture of the wider cultural endeavours taking place in Scotland.

Released on Monday 6 April on Delphian Records, Luminate features new commissions by Scotland's brightest composing voices: William Sweeney, Eddie McGuire, Alasdair Nicolson and John Maxwell Geddes, and performances from LMN Scotland musicians Laura Margaret Smith and Geoffrey Tanti; Emma Versteeg and Maryam Sherhan; the Spencer-Strachan Duo and the Astrid Quartet.

“A fascinating snapshot of contemporary classical music in Scotland, but one that’s inevitably skewed towards the easier-on-the-ear end of new music rather than more experimental works that challenge or provoke.” The List

“Luminate is a celebration of 30 years of Live Music Now Scotland, that glorious, critically important organisation which provides young artists with priceless experience, composers with unique opportunities in contexts they might not have imagined, and an organisation that can inject music as direct care into communities that benefit most, whether they be in hospital, hospice, nursing home or in the broader society.” The Herald, Scotland

The album's available for purchase on the Presto Classical website, i-tunes and Amazon.

Live Music Now Scotland was founded in 1984 and became a devolved branch in April 2013, with its own charitable and company status. LMN Scotland presents around 600 participatory performances a year, covering the whole country, from Orkney and Shetland to the Scottish Borders and Dumfires and Galloway. The pool of musicians delivering the work spans the genres of classical, traditional, rock/pop and jazz and numbers around 120 individual musicians as members of between 40 and 50 ensembles at any one time.
