Transforming Communities

Early Years

LMN is developing models of good practice in music for pre-school children. Work in Early Years settings is known to encourage children to express themselves creatively through music, song and dance; develop their musical skills (rhythm, pitch, singing, playing); develop co-ordination, balance and motor skills; increase their ability to listen, focus and concentrate.

We work in a range of Early Years settings and can also provide training for staff to support their use of music in everyday activities.

“It was amazing the difference that this project made to our previously shy and quieter children. One child’s gran came to our show and could not believe the confidence her granddaughter had gained” Childcare manager

Live Music Now Scotland has a wealth of musicians from both the classical and Scottish traditions, specially trained in performance for an early years audience. Due to ongoing support from the Youth Music Initiative’s Continuing Professional Development fund our programmes continue to develop and expand.

Below is a short film of one of our hugely successful early years projects ‘Traditional Tunes for Tiny People’, which explores Scotland’s rich diversity of traditional music and presents if for babies, toddles and their parents/carers.
