Bio

Alice Poppleton (Violin), Amelia Shakespeare (Cornett, Baroque Flute, Recorders) and Miriam Nohl (Cello and Viola da Gamba) are united by their passion to share the music and instruments they love with a wide range of audiences. After meeting in London through their postgraduate Historical Performance studies at the Royal College and Royal Academy of Music, they formed the Canario Ensemble. The group perform repertoire ranging from dance tunes of the Renaissance to sonatas of the late Baroque.

From babies to children, adults with special needs and those living with dementia, the Ensemble enjoys exploring the music with the audience, making new discoveries through the eyes of the diverse listeners. The players love to adapt the music of centuries past for its purpose that day; instruments and rhythms can be added, ornaments can be improvised, and stories can be told.
