Pixy Tom is a highly experienced performer, composer and recording artist having worked with numerous musicians, artists, theatre companies and storytellers throughout Wales and further afield.
He began his career in Cardiff at the age of 16 performing Spanish guitar in restaurants, bars and clubs throughout the city. During his teens he performed and recorded with countless local bands and toured various festivals throughout the UK. At the age of twenty Tom started learning the violin which quickly became a driving passion in his life inspiring him to travel across Europe seeking to learn from as many different musical cultures as possible. He honed his craft performing with gypsies, clowns and jazz musicians on the streets of Lisbon, Avignon and Barcelona.
Upon returning to Wales Tom moved to Aberystwyth where he began playing with the long established mid-wales gypsyjazz band Chocolat with whom he still performs periodically to this day. During this time Tom formed the duo Mackerel Sky with Cellist and singer Ailsa Mair Hughes, together they co-wrote a brand new soundtrack to Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 animated film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, which was widely praised and approved by the BFI.
Tom lived for a year in Australia where he firmly established himself in the local music scene. He performed regularly with the highly acclaimed singer/songwriter Daryl James and Queensland jazz guitar legend Ewan Mackenzie among many others. He recorded on various locally produced albums including the track ‘Why would you’ for Sadie and Jay shortlisted for the top 30 in the Australian songwriters awards.
Tom plays over 15 instruments including the Harp, Accordion, Clarinet, Piano, Cello, Percussion, Flute and Bass. He currently lives on Anglesey and performs regularly with the renowned local jazz band Tacla and the celidh group band y braichmelyn. He has been a member of Live Music Now since 2019.
