Live Music Now provides training and consultancy to help schools and music organisations develop inclusive, meaningful music-making for autistic pupils.
Our training builds on our free guide, Music with Autistic Pupils in Autism Resource Bases, and the learning from the Musical Connections research programme. It combines research with practical experience from our work in Autism Resource Bases (ARBs), special schools and mainstream schools to help staff and musicians develop their practice.
We work with:
- Classroom teachers and support staff who want practical ways to use music to support participation, communication and wellbeing.
- Music teachers, peripatetic music tutors and visiting musicians who want to develop more creative, flexible approaches to music-making with autistic pupils.
- Music Hubs and Music Services looking to strengthen inclusive practice and support their workforce.
- Schools, local authorities, multi-academy trusts and cultural organisations looking to develop their music provision for autistic pupils.
Training can be delivered online or in person and tailored to your setting. Topics include:
- creating safe, inclusive and pupil-led music-making
- building on autistic children’s strengths, interests and ways of engaging
- facilitating creative music-making with autistic pupils
- adapting instrumental teaching to be more creative, flexible and responsive
- developing effective partnerships between school staff and visiting musicians
- planning and developing music provision in Autism Resource Bases and other specialist settings.
Whether you’re just getting started or building on existing practice, we can work with you to design training that meets the needs of your staff and pupils.
