Live Music Now is working in collaboration with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) to celebrate the National Day of Arts in Care Homes (AICH) with a broadcast of music from around the UK for an afternoon of Western classical, folk and traditional music. This year, the national celebration takes place on Friday 24 September.
Running since 2019, the National Day of Arts in Care Homes aims to celebrate the ongoing engagement between artists, performers, musicians and care home staff and residents. Particularly during the pandemic, the provision of arts and music, either live or online, has been a lifeline for those living and working in care homes.
Live Music Now is thrilled to be working closely with NAPA on this broadcast, hosted by singer Elly Hopkins, half of the Hopkins Oliver Duo with Stuart Oliver.
The concert includes performances by musicians such as The Dovetail Trio, Storia Duo, Akeim Toussaint Buck, and members from folk group Calan. The performances selected are wide-ranging in genre and instrumentation, and the broadcast contains some well-known pieces to encourage viewers to clap, hum or sing along.
