Transforming Communities

Bin There, Drum That! with Live Music Now Wales

Bin There, Drum That! uses music to encourage young people to engage with their community and consider the impact their day-to-day lives have on nature. With help from our musicians, young learners at Coleg Gwent have been building instruments from recyclable waste and using them to make music, as well as writing songs about their favourite green spaces.

Participants have also had the opportunity to meet some furry friends and try out composting at Wellies Farm!

The pilot was delivered in partnership with Leonard Cheshire’s “Can Do” programme thanks to funding from Landfill Disposal Tax Communities Scheme via Wales Council for Voluntary Action, and from Gwent High Sheriff’s Community Fund via Community Foundation Wales.

“Live Music Now musicians’ professionalism, the skills that they bring and the experience, it just works to no end. The partnership’s been a fantastic success.” Dan from Leonard Cheshire

Our next Bin There Drum That project will take place with The Hollies and Meadowbank schools in Cardiff in partnership with Grow Cardiff, thanks to funding from Cardiff Third Sector Council and Glamorgan Voluntary Services. Students will learn about the vegetables growing in the schools’ edible gardens with Grow Cardiff’s educational session leader, then use scrap materials to make percussion and play along to songs about nature with LMN Wales musician Luke Baxter.
