Jazz and Jabs – UK Older People's Day

LMN jazz musicians brought a festive feel to the routine business of flu jabs to mark Older People's Day.

Tom and Andrew Bunting played for two hours at St John's Way Medical Centre. They were joined by one of the surgery's patients, a retired drummer who thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play.

This is the second year older people in the area have been encouraged into the centre for their annual flu jabs with music and refreshments.

The UK celebrated Older People's Day on 1 October, coinciding with the UN International Day of Older Persons. The theme of the 2012 UN commemoration is "Longevity: Shaping the Future". Ageing and health was also the theme of this year's World Health Day on 7 April.

"Longevity is a public health achievement, not a social or economic liability. On this International Day of Older Persons, let us pledge to ensure the well-being of older persons and to enlist their meaningful participation in society so we can all benefit from their knowledge and ability." UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon
