Two weeks ago the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre was transformed into a tapestry of art, music, and poetry as the much-anticipated event featuring the Crankie Box premiered to an audience of 110. The evening, organised by Live Music Now, was a culmination of a two year project celebrating Limavady’s vibrant heritage. Marked by its unique blend of traditional storytelling, live music, and poetic expression, attendees were left mesmerized and deeply moved.
The highlight of the evening was the premiere of ‘The Leap’ in a Crankie Box, crafted by visual artist, Peter Crann. Peter’s intricate, hand-drawn illustrations were complemented by a live performance from the acclaimed poet Anne McMaster, whose powerful recitation added depth and emotion to the evening.
Adding to the enchantment, the renowned traditional Irish band Réalta delivered an unforgettable performance. Their music, characterized by vibrant jigs and soulful ballads, transported the audience into the heart of Irish cultural heritage. Guest performers, Jimmy O’Hara, and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, added to the richness of the evening, showcasing the talent and spirit of the local community.
“I recently attended ‘The Leap’ in the Roe Valley Arts Centre, Limavady and it really was something very special. […] It was lovely to see the young musicians playing alongside the more experienced musicians and I came away from the concert with a feeling of pride in the rich cultural heritage we have in Ireland. A huge thanks to Live Music Now for organising the event and I will definitely attend more of their events in the future.”
