Live Music Now concerts return to schools!

Live Music Now musicians are returning to schools to perform live, following school guidance and LMN’s new Covid-secure protocol for music sessions.

Yorkshire based folk group, The Dovetail Trio, were the first LMN group to perform a concert in a school since March.  The concert launched a major new partnership with Riverside School in Goole, funded by Youth Music.  Here’s how the school and musicians worked together to put on a great first event!

What the musicians said:

The concert went really well and we felt very safe. It was joyful for us to perform to a live audience again!

We met the Assistant Head Teacher outside, having donned masks, and then sanitised hands before and after signing in. The school has big, clear, ventilated corridors and children are staying (where possible) in their classrooms so it was easy to move around keeping a safe distance.

We invested in visors to use whilst performing but didn’t require them in this school.  The performance was in the large school hall to a small group of (masked) pupils from two class bubbles, one on either side of the room. There was plenty of space for the 3 of us to spread out between ourselves and stay well distanced from the audience.

The school technician set up a camera and streamed our concert to the rest of the class bubbles via Microsoft Teams on to the interactive whiteboards in the classrooms.  It allowed for audience interaction as children could ask questions via Teams and we could see everyone via the interactive board in the hall.

We’re looking forward to more distanced concerts at schools!

What the staff said:

What a great afternoon to kick start the project at Riverside, with concerts for both halves of the school pleasingly tailored to both. Thank you for all your efforts in planning and performing.

We all coped well with the technical side so the classes that were not in front of you could watch from a distance using the magic of Teams!  It was a great blend of showing your instruments, unaccompanied singing, instrumental numbers, dance and accompanied folk songs.

Onward to next Monday afternoon when the Primary groups will be waiting expectantly as long as we have no more classes sent home or closures for a deep clean. Dovetail Trio – worth every penny!!
