With great sadness, Live Music Now joins in mourning the loss of Zamira Menuhin Benthall, daughter of the legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin (founder of Live Music Now) and Nola Nicholas. Zamira passed away peacefully at her home on 31 July 2024, at the age of 84. Her funeral will take place on 16 August in Pembury, Kent, UK.
Born in 1939, Zamira dedicated much of her life to continuing her father’s legacy. She was a great supporter of Live Music Now in the UK and Europe, serving as President of Live Music Now Austria and Germany, championing initiatives to make the arts accessible to wider audiences and supporting young musicians. In addition to her involvement with Live Music Now, she was a Life Patron of the Menuhin Competition and a former Governor of the Yehudi Menuhin School.
Live Music Now’s Chief Executive, Janet Fischer, paid tribute to Zamira, stating,”We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Zamira Menuhin Benthall. As Yehudi’s daughter, Zamira was a beloved member of our community. Her dedication to supporting her father’s vision for Live Music Now and her numerous contributions to the arts have been invaluable. She will be deeply missed by everyone connected with Live Music Now and will be remembered for her generosity and kindness. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family at this sad time.”
