Does your child or teenager love music? Are you looking for an activity that they’ll really enjoy and will enhance their focus and musical skills?
The Northern Ireland branch of Live Music Now is offering a free 8 week programme for children with additional needs and their carer/family comprising weekly music sessions. The sessions will be delivered via zoom and will last around 30 minutes each.
A dedicated musician will work with children and families, building rapport and introducing simple musical ideas and tools. No musical experience required, just enthusiasm and commitment, along with a device and internet connection.
Live Music Now is a leader in music participation for children with a range of complex needs. Our musicians typically work in special schools on projects, with class groups and one to one. They are specially trained and supported by an experienced mentor. They use musical games, instruments and apps to stimulate and engage children with special educational needs and disabilities.
This pilot programme is funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
What is it? An 8 week programme with weekly half hour sessions online, starting November /December 2020
Who is it for? For children and teenagers with special educational needs and disabilities aged 5-19 anywhere in Northern Ireland, and their carer / family.
How much does it cost? Thanks to funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, we are pleased to offer this opportunity free of charge. However Live Music Now is a charity and welcomes donations to continue its work.
What you need:
- Internet connection
- Device (tablet, laptop or computer)
- Space (living room is ideal)
- Enthusiasm
- Committed to taking part once a week at the same time for half an hour for 8 weeks.
- Committed to doing a little bit of ‘homework’ inbetween sessions.
- Confirmation that a parent/carer will provide support during each session

Please note this is a pilot programme and currently limited to four families, who will be selected on a range of criteria at Live Music Now’s discretion. If we are over-subscribed we will hold details and offer places subject to funding.
