Transforming Communities

LMN and WOMEX 2013

To mark the world music expo WOMEX coming to Wales, Live Music Now is collaborating with Community Music Wales to provide a series of community engagement concerts. This year's WOMEX takes place in Cardiff from 23rd – 27th October (www.womex.com). The project, which is funded by the Arts Council of Wales, sees world and folk music ensembles performing participative concerts in schools, nurseries and community centres.

Flamenco band Trovador will perform for young people in community venues in the South Wales valleys, and folk duo Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller will perform 'Traditional Tunes for Tiny Tots' in nurseries and children's centres. The Trad Tunes project has already had

great success in Scotland, and LMN are looking forward to the opportunity to bring it to Wales.

Gillian Green, LMN's Director for Wales said: "LMN Wales is delighted to be involved with WOMEX. These projects are so exciting for us, as they have opened doors for the organisation and enabled us to expand our reach, working with new audiences and introducing new musical genres to audiences of all ages".

As well as reaching out to those without access to high quality live music, LMN musicians can use WOMEX as an opportunity to network and showcase their talents to world music industry experts. LMN alumnus Luzmira Zerpa will be headlining the Horizons stage at WOMEX with her band Family Atlantica on Saturday 26th October.
