Gillian Green MBE awarded the Bryn Terfel Foundation Wales Care Award for Promoting the Arts in Social Care

At Live Music Now, we welcome any opportunity to celebrate the unstoppable, inimitable and graceful prowess of Gillian Green. As you all probably know, Gillian founded and led the Welsh branch of LMN 25 years ago, bringing music to thousands of children and older people, in every single Welsh county. Her maternal care for musicians; tireless dedication to quality of delivery; belief in care of the elderly and children; and presence at almost every significant arts event are legendary.

So, it was with great pleasure that we witnessed her being presented with this highly significant award as part of the 2015 Wales Care Awards, held in Cardiff last Friday (6 November). The award was partly made by video link to Bryn Terfel, in Monte Carlo, who has just celebrated his fiftieth birthday. He spoke with great warmth and eloquence about Gillian’s achievements, telling the large assembled audience about LMN’s work throughout Wales and beyond, and how much he recognises the value of arts and culture to effective social care. The award was presented to Gillian by Marilyn Henry (Bryn Terfel’s Commercial Manager) and Louise Swindell of Arts & Business Cymru. Gillian gave a typically witty and poignant acceptance speech, pictured here.

The Wales Care Awards were created by Mario Kreft MBE, and is now in its 13th year. It is a wonderful initiative, designed to highlight the skills and efforts of all those who provide care and support to vulnerable people across Wales. Mario himself  spoke inspiringly at the conclusion of the awards, and referred to the vital role played by music and culture in supporting people to live happy, healthy and social lives.
