Live Music Now Cymru’s LULLABY PROJECT has been selected for ‘The People’s Projects’ public vote, with the opportunity to win a £70,000 award to deliver further work across Wales with new and expectant parents and their families.
Live Music Now has been delivering Lullaby Projects (based on the model developed by Carnegie Hall, New York) since 2021 in South Wales and North West England. The project pairs pregnant women, new mothers and fathers, and carers experiencing mental health challenges with professional musicians. Together, they work over a series of sessions to write and perform personal lullabies for their babies to support maternal health, childhood development and family bonding.
Live Music Now Cymru will feature on ITV Cymru and compete against four other charitable organisations for the public’s vote to win £70,000 towards further Lullaby Projects in South Wales.
ITV Cymru filmed a Lullaby workshop on 8th March 2023 and interviewed Lullaby participant and Volunteer Lullaby Champion Kirsty Price, Live Music Now Cymru musician Bethan Semmens and Swansea Bay UHB Health Worker Jo Edwards. The footage will be shown on ITV Cymru between 15th–26th May 2023 as well as The People’s Project web site.
The Lullaby Project helps families build stronger bonds with their babies, builds parental confidence, can improve perinatal mental health and build networks of friends to reduce social isolation. Through letter writing and discussion with their partners, wider family, Live Music Now musicians and health workers the participants then express their love, hopes and dreams for their child through the creation of a lullaby. Winning the prize fund would enable the launch of five new projects that would benefit 40 families in South Wales, referred by our partners Flying Start and Swansea Bay University Health Board. We need YOUR vote to help us win!
